A spectacle for eyes and ears - for the whole family

Sunday, 29 May 2022 | 11 a.m. | KKL Luzern, Concert Hall
Luzerner Sinfonieorchester | Tabita Berglund, conductor | Iwan Jenny, percussion | Christoph Staerkle, moderation without words

Franz Schubert (1797 – 1828)
Militär-Marsch op. 51 D. 733 Nr. 1 (Arrangement for string orchestra)
Igor Strawinsky (1882 – 1971)
Circus Polka
Darius Milhaud (1892 – 1974)
Concerto for percussion and small orchestra
Aram Chatschaturjan (1903 – 1978)
Suite from the incidental music to «Maskerade» from Michail Lermontow

The 50 elephants for which Igor Stravinsky composed his «Circus Polka» in America in 1942 will not be on stage in this family concert. But otherwise all kinds of animals, figures, clowns and acrobats appear before the inner eye and the smell of sawdust almost rises to the nose while listening. In Milhaud's Concerto for Percussion and Small Orchestra, solo timpanist Iwan Jenny demonstrates the mutability of the percussion. From the five-movement «Masquerade Suite», the«Masquerade Waltz» in particular has become very famous through its use in films and at sporting events. The concert will be presented by the mime and improviser Christoph Staerkle, who tells entire stories through his body language alone.
Humour, charm, exuberance, but also a good portion of longing and melancholy mix to create a spectacle for the eyes and ears - for the whole family!
