SUMMARY:Rising Stars 2023
DESCRIPTION:Embark on a musical journey with young artists taking you from the German and Italian Baroque via Bohemian Romanticism to the present day. We start in Leipzig\, where Johann Sebastian Bach composed his seven harpsichord concertos\, giving the instrument soloistic pre-eminence in his œuvre for the first time. The journey continues to Venice\, where Antonio Vivaldi’s 27 cello concertos were composed. They were among the first to liberate the cello from its subordinate role as a continuo instrument and emancipate it as a soloist. “Icarus” takes us to the present day – and to Switzerland – in a trumpet concerto by Swiss composer Helena Winkelman. Her work takes the flight of Daedalus and Icarus as its theme and reflects the world of Greek mythology in our own time. Finally\, we arrive in Prague\, where Antonín Dvořák composed four symphonic poems shortly before the turn of the 20th century. They are orchestral reflections on folk legends and ballads. “The Golden Spinning Wheel” is a veritable horror story\, featuring a king\, an old man in the forest and a woman who kills her stepdaughter\, as well as a spinning wheel assembled from the bones of the murdered stepdaughter …
