Daniel Arkadij Gerzenberg

Daniel Arkadij Gerzenberg (*1991) is a lyric poet and pianist, librettist and member of the poetry collective G13. He works on the themes of identity, anti-Semitism and sexualized violence. Together with Max Czollek, he curated the four-part series »Lieder für das Jetzt« at the Heidelberger Frühling International Music Festival in 2022 and co-edited the resulting »Lieder« issue of the magazine Akzente. He is Professor of poetry at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin and is a member of the Coalition forw Pluralistic Public Discourse (CPPD). WIEDERGUTMACHUNGSJUDE is his debut.

Daniel Gerzenberg’s parents are the trumpeter Alexander Gerzenberg and the Russian pianist Lilya Zilberstein, who gives concerts internationally and teaches at the University of Music and Performing Arts Hamburg and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, among others. Gerzenberg received his early piano training from his mother and Julia Suslin, later switching to Julija Botchkovskaia. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg with Marian Migdal and Mauro Lo Conte.
He founded the Duo Gerzenberg with his brother, the six years younger pianist Anton Gerzenberg. Together they have performed at the Progetto Martha Argerich Festival in Lugano, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Music Festival, the Ruhr Piano Festival, the National Concert Hall in Taipei, the Auditorio Bolzano, the Philharmonie am Gasteig in Munich, the Philharmonie Essen and the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, among others.

From 2016, he has studied song accompaniment with Wolfram Rieger at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. His teachers also include Christine Schäfer, Thomas Quasthoff, Eric Schneider and Axel Bauni. He has won several national and international music prizes as an accompanist. He has performed at the Heidelberger Frühling, the Hidalgo Festival in Munich, the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, the Ravinia Festival and the Verbier Festival. He has also given concerts at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Pierre Boulez Hall in Berlin and the Wigmore Hall in London.
