Schaghajegh Nosrati

Schaghajegh Nosrati

Debut with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra on January 15, 2026

Born in 1989 in Bochum, she is regarded as an exceptionally versatile musician who established herself early on as a concert pianist thanks to her outstanding reputation as an interpreter of Bach. Her international breakthrough came in 2014 as a prizewinner of the Leipzig Bach Competition – and in particular through her ongoing collaboration with Sir András Schiff, who praises the “astonishing clarity, purity, and maturity” of her Bach playing, as well as her profound musical understanding.

In recent years, the pianist has performed at numerous prestigious venues, including the Ruhr Piano Festival with a solo recital at the Essen Philharmonic (substituting for Daniel Barenboim), the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels (Bozar), the Lucerne Festival, the Tonhalle Zurich, Koerner Hall in Toronto, the Vancouver Playhouse, the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, the Berlin Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall in London, and Carnegie Hall in New York. In the 2022/23 season, Schaghajegh Nosrati was Artist in Residence at the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn and appeared as soloist with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn.

She has also been invited to perform with the Bochum Symphony Orchestra at the Anneliese Brost Musikforum. At the Festival Bach Montréal, she appeared with the festival orchestra under the direction of Reinhard Goebel, and at the “Glocke” in Bremen she made her successful debut with the Bremen Philharmonic in Mozart’s Piano Concerto KV 467.

Nosrati made her debut at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin in 2019, stepping in at short notice for the ailing Radu Lupu; she was re-invited in 2022. This time, her program featured J. S. Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1—the same work she had recorded in the same hall the previous year for a CD production.

Another milestone in her career was her 2018 tour with Sir András Schiff and the Cappella Andrea Barca, performing Bach’s concertos for two pianos, with appearances at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Musikverein Vienna, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, and the KKL Lucerne.

In 2017, Schaghajegh Nosrati embarked on her first multi-week tour of China, making celebrated debuts in Beijing, Shanghai, and other major cities.

To date, eight CDs featuring the pianist have been released. Her discography includes solo piano and orchestral works by J. S. Bach, Joseph Haydn, Charles Valentin Alkan, and Anton Rubinstein. Her 2022 recording of Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book 1 (Label: CAvi) received the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik in the fourth quarter of 2022, as did her first chamber music album Morgenwind with the Joolaee Trio (Label: GWK Records, Q1/2025).

In addition to her solo career, Schaghajegh Nosrati is a passionate chamber musician – not only in classical but also in world music. In 2022, she co-founded the Joolaee Trio (Kamancheh, piano, and percussion) with Misagh Joolaee and Sebastian Flaig. The ensemble has performed at the Rudolstadt Festival, the Raderberg Concerts in Cologne, the Sendesaal Bremen, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and the Heidelberger Frühling.

Alongside her concert activities, Schaghajegh Nosrati has been committed to teaching from an early stage. From 2015 to 2019 she was a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover. Since 2020, she has served as assistant to Sir András Schiff at the Barenboim-Said Akademie in Berlin.
