Recent highlights include the title role in Cavalli’s LaCalisto at Teatro alla Scala, Ginevra (Ariodante) at the Royal Opera House, Mozart’s Zaide at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and Liù(Turandot) with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. She gave her first performances of Strauss Four Last Songs, Schumann’s Das Paradies und die Peri, Bruckner’s Mass in F minor and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, and appeared as soloist in Mahler’s Second and Fourth Symphonies with the Munich Philharmonic and Gustavo Dudamel, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Zubin Mehta, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Daniele Gatti, and the Vienna Symphony under Lahav Shani. She made her debut with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin under Vladimir Jurowski (Haydn Die Jahreszeiten), the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under Antonio Pappano (Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem), theBerlin Philharmonic and Czech Philharmonic under Semyon Bychkov (Mahler Fourth Symphony) and the Filarmonica della Scala.

The much-celebrated soprano Chen Reiss enchants audiences with “one of the most perfect Strauss voices one could wish for” (ClassicalSource), “a voice full of silvery luster and clarity” (Bachtrack), and “an immaculately emerging and seductive sound coupled with superb musicianship” (Opera News).

Highlights this season include Mahler’s Fourth Symphony at the Gstaad and Grafenegg Festivals, Das Klagende Lied at the Leipzig Mahler Festival, Bach and Beethoven with the Israel Philharmonic, Berg’s Seven Early Songs with the SWR Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich and the Munich Philharmonic, and her debut with the National Symphony Orchestra.

Recent CD releases include Mahler’s Fourth Symphony (Pentatone), orchestrated songs and scenes by Fanny Hensel and Felix Mendelssohn, and Immortal Beloved, a recording of Beethoven arias with the Academy of Ancient Music for Onyx Classics. Upcoming releases include Schreker’s Vom ewigen Leben for Deutsches Grammophon with Christoph Eschenbach and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin.

With the Vienna Philharmonic, she was guest soloist in a gala concert at Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and with the Orchestre National de France under Alain Altinoglu she participated in the Bastille Day Concert de Paris 2019, broadcast live from the Eiffel Tower. In December 2014, Chen Reiss was invited to sing at the Christmas Mass for Pope Francis, which was broadcast worldwide. An extensive discography is available from the singer, including CDs of arias by Mozart and Haydn, as well as the solo album Le Rossignol et la Rose together with renowned pianist Charles Spencer (Onyx Classics), and roles in complete recordings of Die Fledermaus (Capriccio), Don Giovanni and Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem (Helicon), Lehar’s Das Fürstenkind (CPO), and DVD releases of Fauré’s Requiem with the Orchestre de Paris under Paavo Järvi and Mahler’s Second Symphony with the Munich Philharmonic under Gustavo Dudamel. Accompanied by the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle, she recorded the soundtrack to Tom Tykwer’s film Perfume.

Chen Reiss is passionate about sharing her knowledge with the next generation of singers and musicians. She is in demand as an experienced vocal teacher and regularly gives master classes for institutions such as the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, the Buchmann-Mehta Music School and the Israel Summer Opera Program in Tel Aviv, the Schlossakademie in Hamburg, Triomphe de l’Art in Brussels, the Festival international de Colmar in France, as well as the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Masterclass Media Foundation and the Philharmonia Chorus in London. In 2022 she founded the Sourire Music Foundation, which is dedicated to supporting and encouraging young musicians* by providing them with training and performance opportunities. In 2023, she founded the Holistic Voice Academy – a special training program for singers that addresses their vocal, physical, and mental well-being.
