Daniel Meller

Daniel Meller (*1986) studied violin at Zurich University of the Arts with Zakhar Bron and Nora Chastain and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with David Takeno.

As a founding member and violinist of Trio Rafale, he has pursued an international career in chamber music since 2008. With the ensemble, he has won numerous competitions and first prizes, including at the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, the Migros Chamber Music Competition and the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. The trio has performed at venues including the Berliner Philharmonie, Wigmore Hall London, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Suntory Hall and Tonhalle Zürich, as well as at Lucerne Festival, Davos Festival and the Hitzacker Summer Music Festival. Its recordings have received several awards; in 2017, the album Frühwerke – Youthful Passion, released by Coviello Classics, was selected for the Bestenliste of the German Record Critics’ Award.

At the age of 22, Daniel Meller was appointed Second Concertmaster of the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra, a position he held for two years. Since then, he has appeared as concertmaster, second concertmaster and section leader with leading Swiss ensembles, including Camerata Bern, the Bern Symphony Orchestra, Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Orchestra of Zurich Opera House and the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. From 2023 to 2025, he was Principal Second Violin of the Basel Symphony Orchestra, and since 2022 he has held the same position with Festival Strings Lucerne.

Since August 2026, Daniel Meller has been Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester.
