choral conducting
The heart of the Luzerner Kantorei
Eberhard Rex’s path took him from the Trossingen Academy of Music to the Calw Aurelius Boys’ Choir and finally to the Lucerne Choir in 2000, where he has been rehearsing Christmas carols together with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester for several years.
The conductor and church musician Eberhard Rex received his musical training at the Trossingen State Academy of Music with Gerd Witte (organ), Manfred Schreier (conducting) and Josef Sinz (singing). During his intensive work with children’s voices, he gained experience as an opera conductor and orchestra conductor.
He was involved with the renowned Aurelius Boys’ Choir in Calw as a vocal coach and choirmaster, while at the same time successfully developing the Calw girls’ choir “ARTEvocale”. In 2000, he took over the Lucerne Boys’ Choir, which at the time consisted of equal voices, expanded it to mixed voices and led it to artistic maturity for Bach’s Mass in B minor in just twelve years.
After the merger of the Lucerne Boys’ and Girls’ Choir with the choirs of the Lucerne Music School in 2012, Eberhard Rex took over the artistic direction of the Lucerne Boys’ Choir. Among the conductors for whom he has rehearsed the choir are personalities such as Sir Simon Rattle, Mariss Jansons, James Levine, Jeffrey Tate, Daniel Barenboim, Krzysztof Penderecki and Péter Eötvös.
