Luzi Niederhauser was born in Biel in 2003. He began playing the classical double bass at the age of eight. Three years later, he added the electric bass.
Since then, he has had several opportunities to perform as a soloist with professional orchestras, such as in 2017 and 2018 with the Biel-Solothurn Symphony Orchestra and in 2019 with the Orchestre Symphonique de Neuchâtel. He has also been engaged several times for duo recitals at renowned concert series in Biel.
He has already won the “1st prize with distinction” and the special prize of the Fondation Suisa several times at the Swiss Youth Music Competition. He also won 1st prize at the Concours du Jura in 2019.
As an electric bassist, he has performed in numerous bands and in a wide variety of styles. Including at the Langnau Jazz Festival, Jazzaar Festival, Lakelive Biel and Moods Zurich with greats such as Hermeto Pascoal, Marius Neset, James Genus, Ray Angry and Mark Whitfield.
After completing his bachelor’s degree in jazz at the Hochschule Luzern in summer 2024, he will be working as deputy section leader with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and as a member of several bands.
His long-standing supporters include Witold Moniewski, Bozo Paradzik and David Desimpelaere on double bass and Toni Schiavano and Wolfgang Zwiauer on electric bass.
