As a conductor, organist and continuo player, Gianluca Capuano has performed throughout Europe, the USA, Russia and Japan. In 2006 he founded the ensemble Il Canto di Orfeo, with which he performs Baroque masterpieces and which he conducted in 2017 at the Milano Arte Musica Festival and in 2019 at the Salzburg Whitsun Festival in Caldara’s oratorio La morte d’Abel, among others.
In 2016, he conducted performances of Norma with Cecilia Bartoli at the Edinburgh Festival, in Paris, and in Baden-Baden. Since then, he has worked extensively with Bartoli and Les Musiciens du Prince. This was followed by, among others. La Cenerentola in Monte Carlo, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Versailles and Luxembourg; Il turco in Italia in Monte Carlo; staged productions of Ariodante, Alcina, Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno and Il barbiere di Siviglia, concert performances of La donna del lago and La clemenza di Tito and several concerts at the Salzburg Festival; a guest performance dedicated to Rossini at the Vienna State Opera (with La Cenerentola, Il turco in Italia and a gala concert) as well as La clemenza di Tito, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and other works at the Lucerne Festival. He also conducted Cecilia Bartoli in La Cenerentola, Iphigénie en Tauride and L’italiana in Algeri at the Zurich Opera House.
Gianluca Capuano’s past engagements also include Vivaldi’s Catone in Utica, Gassmann’s Gli uccellatori, Il matrimonio segreto and Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno at Oper Köln, Idomeneo at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Pigmalione and Che originali! at the Donizetti Opera Festival in Bergamo, Spontini’s Le metamorfosi di Pasquale at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, La finta giardiniera and Haydn’s Orlando Paladino at the Zurich Opera House, Monteverdi’s Marienvesper in Cremona, L’elisir d’amore and the Christmas Oratorio at the Hamburg State Opera, Orfeo ed Euridice at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, Guillaume Tell at the Chorégies d’Orange, Il matrimonio segreto at the Netherlands National Opera in Amsterdam, Il barbiere di Siviglia in Palermo; Mozart’s Requiem in Bari, Cimarosa’s Il maestro di cappella in combination with Wolf-Ferrari’s Il segreto di Susanna in Genoa, Ariodante and Le nozze di Figaro at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, and Il turco in Italia at the Bavarian State Opera.
His engagements for the 2022/23 season include Alcina at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Alceste in Rome, L’elisir d’amore at the Vienna State Opera, Alcina, Il barbiere di Siviglia and L’Orfeo in Monte-Carlo, La clemenza di Tito on tour with Cecilia Bartoli and Les Musiciens du Prince, and numerous concerts.
