Biography

As a concertmaster, he has appeared with many leading orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra.

Israeli violinist Gregory Ahss began violin lessons aged five at the Gnessin Music School in his native Moscow.

His studies took him to the Israeli Conservatory, the Academy of Music in Tel Aviv and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, during which time he won prestigious competitions as a soloist and also as a chamber musician with the Tal Piano Trio, which he founded. He has performed under the direction of Claudio Abbado and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, with Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra Mozart Bologna and Camerata Salzburg.

As a concertmaster, he has appeared with many leading orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra. From 2005 to 2011 Gregory Ahss was concertmaster of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He was awarded the same position in Camerata Salzburg in 2012, and since 2009 has also been concertmaster of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.
