Hayato Sumino

Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino (born 1995 in Nagoya), also known by his stage name “Cateen,” won the 2018 Oberlin International Piano Competition and took third prize at the 2021 Clara Haskil Competition. He studied at the University of Tokyo and completed a master’s degree in computer science. Sumino combines classical virtuosity with a major online presence, his performance videos garnering millions of views. In the 2025/26 season he debuts with the NHK Symphony Orchestra and gives recital tours across Europe and Asia.
