Biography

Swiss trombonist Jean-Philippe Duay was born in Saint-Aubin in 1983. While still a member of the Zurich Opera orchestra academy in 2004, he was awarded his position in the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and gained his Soloist Diploma at the Conservatoire supérieur de Genève.

In 2002 he was the Swiss finalist in the Grand Prix Eurovision in Lugano, and won second prize in the Concours National d’Exécution Musicale in Riddes in 2003. From 2010 to 2012 he studied in Hanover in the soloist class of Jonas Bylund. He has played with various orchestras, including the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, Zurich Opera Orchestra, Gstaad Festival Orchestra, Lucerne Festival Orchestra, the World Youth Orchestra, Munich Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Jean-Philippe Duay is the founder of the brass quintet, United Brass of Switzerland.
