Julia Malkova
Julia Malkova, born in St. Petersburg, first attended the local music school and received violin lessons from Tatiana Grischuk before continuing her studies at the Rimsky-Korsakov Music College in St. Petersburg, majoring in viola with Prof. Elena Panfilova. There, at the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory, she graduated with a major in viola, chamber music and music pedagogy under Professor Vladimir Stopichev.
From 1993 she was tutti violist and later solo violist in the orchestra of the Mariinsky Theater (Kirov Theater) under the direction of Valery Gergiev. From 1999-2007 she was also principal violist of the Madrid Symphony Orchestra (Teatro Real) under the direction of Garcia Navarro and Jesús López Cobos and also in Spain from 2007-09 principal violist in the symphony orchestra of Radio Television Española under the direction of Adrian Leaper, Since 2009 she has been principal violist of the Orquesta de la Comunidad Valenciana in “Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia” (Valencia, Spain) under the baton of the music director Maestro Lorin Maazel and the president of the Festival Mediterraneo Valencia Zubin Mehta. Since 2012 she is solo viola of the Bern Symphony Orchestra.
