Biography

Philipp Hutter has won prizes at various competitions including the Yamaha Foundation of Europe, the Lions Club Competition Germany and the Jugend Musiziert national competition. In 2010, he won the audience prize at the Musical Olympus Foundation’s prizewinners’ concert.

A move from Switzerland to Naumburg, Germany, took Philipp Hutter to the Specialist Music School in Halle. He studied with Max Sommerhalder in Detmold and gained his Master in Solo Performance with Frits Damrow in Amsterdam and Zurich.

Philipp Hutter has won prizes at various competitions including the Yamaha Foundation of Europe, the Lions Club Competition Germany and the Jugend Musiziert national competition. In 2010, he won the audience prize at the Musical Olympus Foundation’s prizewinners’ concert.

As a soloist he has played in renowned concert halls such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Hermitage in St Petersburg, London’s Wigmore Hall, Zurich Tonhalle and the KKL Luzern. At the age of 23 he was appointed principal trumpet in Lucerne.

He still continues to perform as a soloist and chamber musician in ensembles such as Lucerne Chamber Brass, and gives masterclasses at the universities of Sao Paolo (Brazil), Tallinn (Estonia), Medellin (Colombia) as well as at the International Tokay Summer Institute (Hungary) and the Lucerne School of Music. In the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester he serves as a deputy on the audition commission.

These days, Philipp is studying conducting in Luzern with Clemens Heil.

Philipp Hutter will take a break from the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester for the 2024/25 season and will be back on stage the following season.
