In early 2003 he graduated with a distinction in his Concert Diploma from Zurich University of the Arts, studying under David Johnson and Glen Borling (natural horn). Philipp Schulze was awarded the Mozart Prize with his successful brass quintet, Lucerne Chamber Brass, which has also won various international prizes.
Philipp Schulze grew up in Steinen. After taking trumpet, alphorn and percussion lessons, he began learning the horn at the age of 16. He studied at the Lucerne School of Music with Jakob Hefti (Teaching and Orchestral diploma) and at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana with Radovan Vlatkovic.

In 2004, under the patronage of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, he was invited to the International Orchestra Institute Attergau (Austria) where he played under conductors such as Mariss Jansons and Marcello Viotti. He is also a passionate teacher, a member of Steinen Music Society and founder of the Schwyzer Horngruppe. From 2012-2015 he was auditor for the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester in the Lucerne section of the SMV.
