Sungwook Kim

Debut at Luzerner Sinfonieorchester on September 20st 2024

is a conductor from South Korea. His musical education began at Kyunghee University in Seoul with Prof. Seunglim Kim in composition. He began studying piano, violin, viola and percussion at the age of 5 and was certified as the youngest piano and grand piano player in Korea at the age of 18. He has received scholarships from LG, KJ Invitation and Prima la Musica.

He is currently continuing his studies in the conducting class of Prof. Matthias Foremny at the HMT Leipzig. He has worked with renowned orchestras and was involved in the opera projects of Janáček’s “The Cunning Little Vixen” at the HMT Leipzig and Johann Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus” at the Musikalische Komödie Leipzig. In the 2023/24 season, he was assistant conductor and répétiteur for Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” at the Goethe Theater Bad Lauchstädt and conducted Otto Nicolai’s “Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor” in Leipzig. In October 2024, he will once again take part in a performance of “Die Zauberflöte” in Bad Lauchstädt.
