Yannick Debus
Hamburg‑born baritone Yannick Debus studied voice as well as music theory and aural training at the Lübeck University of Music. He also took lessons with renowned Dutch teacher Margreet Honig and continued his studies at the Basel Academy of Music and the Schola Cantorum, completing Master’s degrees in Performance and Specialised Performance Soloist with distinction. Debus participated in masterclasses with singers such as Ludovic Tézier, Thomas Hampson and Sir Thomas Allen. He gained stage experience early on in Mozart roles such as Figaro and Don Giovanni, later appearing at the Kiel and Lübeck opera houses. In January 2019 he sang the title role of Kaiser Overall in Viktor Ullmann’s Der Kaiser von Atlantis at Basel Theatre, followed by roles including Figaro in Milhaud’s La mère coupable and Kilian in Weber’s Freischütz at Zurich Opera. In addition to opera he is active in Lied and concert repertoire; highlights include a recording of Weber’s Freischütz with René Jacobs and the Freiburger Barockorchester and performances of Handel’s Israel in Egypt and Haydn’s The Creation at Berlin’s Konzerthaus.
