Music Education

For children, teenagers and adults

A programme for people aged 0 to 100

The Music Outreach programme invites children and adults to experience live classical music with all their senses. This concept of inclusion has been a core concern from the outset.

Our Music Outreach programme has been running since 2008 and is being constantly developed. It includes staged concerts and concerts with presenters, as well as workshops where people with and without previous experience can make music together. Meeting musicians from the orchestra, open rehearsals and individualised concert introductions provide exciting insights into the world of sounds and instruments.

At home in Lucerne – on the road throughout Central Switzerland

Our home is the KKL Luzern and the Orchesterhaus on the «Südpol» campus. For certain people, visiting us is simply not possible or involves significant hurdles. For this reason, we also travel to towns and villages throughout Central Switzerland with our concerts and projects, from Silenen to Sursee, from Hünenberg to Willisau, Sarnen, Dallenwil, Steinen, Baar, Sempach, Einsiedeln, Schwyz… We have collected a rucksack full of musical memories in all these places, such as an improvised Arabic melody in the reverberate acoustics of a street subway; a thunderstorm of chairs in a classroom, aquarium music by the carp pool; the buzzing of dozens of homemade bees in an assembly hall; booming basses in front of the Richard Wagner Museum; the tumbling fugue of a string quartet conducted by four children; hundreds of ping-pong balls falling into an empty swimming pool; wailing music with rubber balls on a wooden floor; and building site used as a musical circuit, and many more. When are we next in your neighbourhood?

Awarded the «Junge-Ohren-Preis» (Young Ears Prize)

In 2018, the Music Outreach programme was awarded the prestigious «Junge-Ohren-Preis». «This multi-faceted and flexible programme makes use of a mobile venue and so is able to reach people both in the city and the country. Its inclusive approach, which invites people with and without impairments as well as socially disadvantaged groups to experience music, is particularly worthy of note,»the jury said in explaining its decision.

En route to accessibility and inclusion

In collaboration with the «Kultur inklusiv» service, we have been implementing measures since 2017 which allow people with disabilities barrier-free access to our programme. As proud bearers of the «Kultur inklusiv» label, we recognise the jointly devised charter for cultural inclusion and commit ourselves to the comprehensive inclusion of people with disabilities as artists, audience and employees.
