This benefit concert spans a broad musical arc, from the romantic operatic stage to symphonic joie de vivre. Carl Maria von Weber’s overture to Der Freischütz opens the evening with dramatic tension and atmospheric intensity—a key work of German Romanticism. Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto marks a turning point in the genre: lyrical, dialogical, and of quiet grandeur, interpreted by Alice Sara Ott, one of the most distinguished pianists of our time. The program concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony, a work rich in Bohemian colors, images of nature, and optimism. Under the direction of Martin Rajna, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra showcases its full stylistic range here—from dramatic intensity to radiant sonic brilliance.
This gala concert supports people affected by poverty in Central Switzerland; the proceeds benefit projects run by Caritas Central Switzerland.
