Event Description
Profoundly exuberant teenage romance
Following Sophia Liu, the second lunch concert features another exceptionally young pianist, Tianyao Lyu. She will already be appearing as a soloist in Robert Schumannβs KonzertstΓΌck for Piano and Orchestra at the opening concert of Le Piano Symphonique. In the more intimate setting of the Zeugheersaal, she will now focus primarily on Chopin.
Tianyao Lyu first attracted international attention in 2025 at the 19th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, where, at the age of 16, she won 4th prize and the award for the best concert performance. Her playing impressed the audience with its maturity, originality and immediate emotional impact.
She speaks very personally about her special connection to Chopin: his music moves her deeply; when she plays, it is as if she were speaking to him β without words. This naturalness also characterises her playing: supple, spontaneous and, at the same time, marked by great technical assurance.
The lunch concert begins with Beethovenβs Variations on a Swiss Folk Song and then delves fully into Chopinβs musical world. Alongside mazurkas, the programme features repertoire gems such as the Β«RaindropΒ» Prelude and the Barcarolle. From the ethereal and virtuosic Scherzo No. 4, the pianistic demands build up to the Variations on Mozartβs Β«LΓ ci darem la manoΒ», with which the young Chopin already caused a sensation as a virtuoso.
It is in this combination of exuberant virtuosity and emotional depth that the particular appeal of this programme lies β and perhaps something akin to a profoundly effusive teenage romance.
