Event Description

Virtuosity in full force: A calling card to open the season

The first concert of the season is, in more ways than one, a calling card for the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester. For a start, Gustav Mahler’s First Symphony continues the orchestra’s exploration of large scale late Romantic repertoire under chief conductor Michael Sanderling. It is an early example of β€œinclusive” music that embraces the whole world on its journey, beginning with the sounds of nature and culminating in a radiant choral apotheosis. Secondly, the orchestra’s success rests upon the prominence of its international soloists – in this case pianist Anna Vinnitskaya. Celebrated for her brilliant virtuosity and emotionally intense interpretations, she will perform Ravel’s jazz-inspired β€œPiano Concerto for the Left Hand”.
