Bertrand Chamayou has acquired an extensive repertoire and captivates audiences with his assurance, ingenuity, artistic approach and remarkable consistency in his performances. He performs regularly at such venues as the Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Lincoln Center, Munich’s Herkulessaal, and London’s Wigmore Hall. He has performed at major festivals, including the Mostly Mozart Festival in New York, the Lucerne Festival, the Salzburg Festival, the Edinburgh International Festival, the Rheingau Music Festival and the Beethovenfest Bonn.
This season he performs with the Philharmonie de Paris and the Vienna Philharmonic, with both in Messiaen’s Turangalila Symphony, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France with Barbara Hannigan, the San Francisco Symphony, the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España, the Barcelona Symphony, the Antwerp Symphony, the Orchestra National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Czech Philharmonic and the Orchestre de Paris under the baton of Esa-Pekka Salonen. A tour with the Orchestre des Champs-Elysees and Louis Langree will take him to major venues throughout France.
Bertrand Chamayou has worked with orchestras such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, hr-Sinfonieorchester, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Recent highlights include his acclaimed debuts with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, Pittsburgh Symphony and Budapest Festival Orchestra, Bamberg Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, and Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Chamayou has worked with conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Leonard Slatkin, Sir Neville Marriner, Michel Plasson, Stéphane Denève, Emmanuel Krivine and Andris Nelsons.
Chamayou performs regularly as a chamber musician, including with Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, Quatuor Ébène, Antoine Tamestit, and Sol Gabetta. Following his successful performances at Lincoln Center’s Great Performers Series and the Salzburg Easter Festival, this season he will give recitals at the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, London Symphony Orchestra St Luke’s, Ittingen, Berlin Philharmonic, Hong Kong Arts Festival and Grenoble, as well as with Sol Gabetta in Vincenza, Bolzano, Bari, Florence, Solomeo, Turin, Merano, Siena and Toulouse. This season Chamayou will also perform with the Belcea Quartet at Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle, London’s Wigmore Hall and in Innsbruck, Madrid, Vienna, Munich, Berlin, Antwerp and Paris, as well as with the Boulez Ensemble and Daniel Barenboim in Berlin, Paris and Vienna.
Bertrand Chamayou has released a large number of very successful recordings, including a multi-award winning Naïve CD of music by César Franck. He was awarded the 2019 Gramophone Recording of the Year Award for his recording of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concertos Nos. 2 and 5. He is the only artist to have won the prestigious French Victoires de la Musique four times, has an exclusive recording contract with Warner/Erato, and was awarded the ECHO Klassik in 2016 for his recording of Ravel’s complete works for solo piano. Bertrand Chamayou was born in Toulouse; his musical talent was quickly recognized by the pianist Jean-François Heisser, who later became his professor at the Paris Conservatoire. He completed his training with Maria Curcio in London.
