Bruce Liu

Debut at Luzerner Sinfonieorchester on April 29th 2026

Bruce Liu, First Prize winner of the 18th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2021, is regarded as one of the most captivating pianists of his generation. His virtuosity is matched by his artistic curiosity, his flexible musicality («nimble versatility», The New York Times) and his «breathtakingly beautiful sound» (BBC Music Magazine).

A highly sought-after soloist, Liu has recently performed with leading orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, collaborating with conductors including Manfred Honeck, Paavo Järvi, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Sir Antonio Pappano, Lahav Shani and Dalia Stasevska.

In summer 2025, Liu further strengthens his presence on the world’s major stages with his debut at the BBC Proms, performing with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Santtu-Matias Rouvali. He also appears with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Marin Alsop at the Ravinia Festival, and tours Europe with the NCPA Orchestra under Myung-Whun Chung, as well as with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Vasily Petrenko.

The 2025/26 season takes him on major international tours, including Japan with the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra under Vladimir Jurowski, China with the Staatskapelle Dresden under Daniele Gatti, and Germany, Austria, Belgium and Paris with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra under Kazuki Yamada. As a «Spotlight Artist» of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Liu appears in multiple programmes, including collaborations with Franz Welser-Möst and Gustavo Gimeno.

As a dedicated recitalist, Liu has performed at venues such as the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall and the Philharmonie de Paris. The 2025/26 season includes recital debuts at the Berlin Philharmonie and the Opéra de Lyon, as well as return invitations to Carnegie Hall, the Vienna Musikverein and major concert halls across Italy and Japan. He also appears at leading international festivals including Edinburgh, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Verbier, La Roque-d’Anthéron, Rheingau, Aspen and Tanglewood.

An exclusive artist with Deutsche Grammophon, Bruce Liu was named «Young Artist of the Year» at the Opus Klassik Awards 2024 for his debut album Waves. His second studio album, featuring Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons, was released in November 2024 to critical acclaim, with The Guardian writing: «Impeccably polished yet wonderfully unpretentious – Liu brings dignity and sincerity to these charming salon pieces.»

Bruce Liu was born in Paris and raised in Montréal. His playing reflects his multicultural background – a synthesis of European refinement, North American energy and the rich traditions of Chinese culture. His teachers include Richard Raymond and Dang Thai Son.
