Biography

David Desimpelaere has been principal double bass with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester since 2018. He has held the same position with the “Orchestra della Svizzera italiana” in Lugano since 2016. Before moving to Switzerland, he played principal double bass in the Brussels Philharmonic. In addition to these permanent positions, he has played as a guest in the Orchestre de Paris.

David Desimpelaere studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels under Frank Coppieters and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under Rinat Ibragimov. He obtained his Soloist Diploma in 2017 at the Musikhochschule Freiburg (Germany) under Bozo Paradzik.

David Desimpelaere has won several prizes at international solo double bass competitions. He was third prize winner at the IV International Serge Koussevitzky Double Bass Competition (St. Petersburg, 2011) and first prize winner at the International Double Bass Competition Brno in 2011 (Czech Republic).
