Biography

At the age of 16, Dominic Wunderli gained experience as principal trumpet of the Zurich Youth Symphony Orchestra, touring Argentina, South Africa and Italy.

Dominic Wunderli was born in Männedorf by Lake Zurich in 1994 and took his first trumpet lessons at the age of eight. In addition to successfully taking part in solo competitions, he was awarded his municipality’s cultural sponsorship prize in 2014. By the age of 16, Dominic Wunderli had already gained experience as a solo trumpet player with the Jugendsinfonieorchester Zürich, with which he toured Argentina, South Africa and Italy. He played in the Verbier Festival Orchestra from 2018 to 2022 and has been a member of the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra ever since. He regularly plays as a substitute in various Swiss orchestras such as the Tonhalle Zurich, Basel Chamber Orchestra, Bern Symphony Orchestra and St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra. Dominic Wunderli was a substitute in the Staatskapelle Halle (Saale) in the 2015/16 season and a substitute at the Staatsoperette Dresden from 2015 to 2017. Since December 2018, he has played as deputy principal trumpet in the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in 2017 at the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music Dresden with Prof. Malte Burba and Prof. Tobias Willner (solo trumpeter of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden). In 2020, he completed his master’s degree at the Zurich University of the Arts with Prof. Frits Damrow (former solo trumpeter of the Concertgebouw Amsterdam). In addition to his orchestral activities, Dominic Wunderli also devotes himself to chamber music and historical performance practice on the baroque trumpet. He is a member of the Swiss Brass Consort ensemble, which is made up of top musicians from the Swiss music scene.
