Biography

At the age of 16, Dominic Wunderli gained experience as principal trumpet of the Zurich Youth Symphony Orchestra, touring Argentina, South Africa and Italy.

Dominic Wunderli was born in 1994 in Männedorf on Lake Zurich. He took his first trumpet lessons at the age of eight. In addition to his success in solo competitions, Dominic Wunderli received an arts scholarship from his local borough in 2014.

At the age of 16, Dominic Wunderli gained experience as principal trumpet of the Zurich Youth Symphony Orchestra, touring Argentina, South Africa and Italy. In 2016 he played with the European Student Symphony Orchestra at the National Forum of Music in Wrocław and at the NOSPR Hall in Katowice. In 2018 Dominic Wunderli was a member of the Verbier Festival Orchestra and part of the inaugural North German Orchestra Academy, which also performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.

Dominic Wunderli was a substitute in the Staatskapelle Halle (Saale) in the 2015/16 season and also in the Dresden State Operetta from 2015 to 2017. Since December 2018 he has held the position of assistant principal trumpet in the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester.

He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in 2017 at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden with Malte Burba and  Tobias Willner (principal trumpet of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden). He is currently studying at Zurich University of the Arts on the Master’s programme with Frits Damrow.
