Katrin Burger studied at the Basel Music Academy with Christoph Schiller, where she graduated with distinction with a concert diploma. She then went on to study for a performance master’s degree with a focus on orchestra with Isabel Charisius in Lucerne. Her studies were complemented by many years of chamber music lessons with Walter Levin, the Bennewitz, Zemlinsky and Hagen Quartets as well as the Scharoun Ensemble of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a Villa Musica DE scholarship holder, she was given the opportunity to perform with musicians such as Patrick Demenga, Wen-Sinn Yang, Jens-Peter Mainz, Rainer Kussmaul, Ingolf Turban, Martin Ostertag and Eszter Haffner. She has played under Pierre Boulez in the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and under Sir Colin Davis and Simon Rattle in the Symphony Orchestra. She was a trainee and is now a regular substitute with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich.
Chamber music is another passion that she shares regionally with the Ensemble Kunstkeramik and throughout Switzerland in various formations. She regularly plays in various orchestras in Switzerland. In 2011 she became a permanent member of the Festival Strings Lucerne and violist with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester.
She has been deputy principal violist of the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester since 2024.
