Jordi Rodriguez Cayuelas
Member of the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester since August 2024
Alongside his work with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Jordi Rodriguez Cayuelas regularly appears as guest concertmaster with various orchestras, including Aarhus Symfoniorkester, Euskadi Symphony Orchestra, Asturias Symphony Orchestra, Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta de Extremadura and Murcia Symphony Orchestra.
He has also worked as a violin teacher at the Lumbye Academy, an institution supporting young artists on their path into orchestral life and in preparing for international competitions. Since the Academy’s founding, Jordi has taught numerous students who have gone on to achieve success in competitions.
From 2019 to 2024, Jordi served as Associate Concertmaster of the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. Prior to that, he spent five years as section leader of the second violins at the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon.
He has won multiple first prizes at national and international competitions, including:
- 1st Prize, International Violin Competition of the Youth Orchestra Festival in Murcia (Spain)
- 1st Prize, “Schmolz & Bickenbach” International Chamber Music Competition, Düsseldorf (Germany)
- 1st Prize, “Young Talents” National Competition, Xàtiva (Spain)
- 1st Prize, XVI National Music Competition “City of Cox” (Spain)
Rodriguez Cayuelas began his formal training at the age of 16 at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, studying with, among others, Vicente Huerta, José Luis García, Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartet) and Eldar Nebolsin.
He continued his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (Austria), followed by a Master’s degree at the Robert Schumann Hochschule in Düsseldorf (Germany), where he studied with Ida Bieler, Jürgen Kussmaul and Christoph Richter and graduated with distinction. In Düsseldorf, he became a member of the Alinde Quartet, expanding his chamber music experience through recordings and concerts in Germany and Italy.
Jordi also holds an Advanced Studies Diploma in Orchestral Performance from the Haute École de Musique de Genève, where he worked in collaboration with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.
He plays a violin by Giovanni Battista Rogeri, generously made available to him by his mentor Vicente Huerta.
