Event Description
Virtuosity in full force: A calling card to open the season
The first concert of the season is, in more ways than one, a calling card for the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester. For a start, Gustav Mahler’s First Symphony continues the orchestra’s exploration of large scale late Romantic repertoire under chief conductor Michael Sanderling. It is an early example of “inclusive” music that embraces the whole world on its journey, beginning with the sounds of nature and culminating in a radiant choral apotheosis. Secondly, the orchestra’s success rests upon the prominence of its international soloists – in this case pianist Anna Vinnitskaya. Celebrated for her brilliant virtuosity and emotionally intense interpretations, she will perform Ravel’s jazz-inspired “Piano Concerto for the Left Hand”.
