When Rudolf Buchbinder was accepted as the youngest student at the Vienna Academy of Music at the age of only five, it was clear that this «Rudi» was an exceptionally talented pianist. Four years later, he proved his artistic authority in his first public concert. Fortunately for us, Rudolf Buchbinder knew since childhood that he never wanted to do anything else but play the piano, and he has been influencing international musical life now for almost 70 years. He continues to set new standards with his recordings, is constantly expanding his repertoire and – not to be overlooked – he scours the existing scores for errors with uncompromising meticulousness. Of a life dedicated entirely to music he says, «I see my talent as a duty to music, but also to the audience.» «The incredible thing about my profession is that you never stop learning. There is no end to learning. You can always discover something new in music.» And whenever he sits down at the piano, it really sounds new, like an intuitive creation in the moment, palpably alive, exciting, compellingly authoritative, and yet young and unspent.
