Event Description
Up to 13 million people watch Japanese pianist Hayato Sumino improvise on “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” in seven levels of difficulty on his YouTube channel under the name “Cateen”. His followers can encounter him live at the piano festival “Le Piano Symphonique” of the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester.
Hayato Sumino appeals not only to Generation Z. As one of the most exciting pianists of the younger generation, he opens new approaches to the classical piano repertoire through technical brilliance and personal musicality.
His recital is devoted to Romantic piano music by Frédéric Chopin and other composers – a repertoire whose emotional expressiveness is close to his own neoclassically influenced compositions.
Pianists such as Hayato Sumino represent the “Next Generation” at the 2027 piano festival – alongside world-class artists surrounding “Pianiste Associée” Martha Argerich.
With Hayato Sumino, one of the most exciting pianists of the younger generation can be experienced in Lucerne. The Japanese pianist, internationally also known as “Cateen”, captivates a global audience far beyond traditional concert halls while embodying the highest level of artistic precision.
His recital is dedicated to the Romantic piano repertoire, featuring works by Frédéric Chopin and other composers. Sumino combines technical brilliance with an immediate, personal musicality that opens up new perspectives on the classical piano literature.
