Event Description
Like the entire season, the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester’s chamber music matinées are dedicated to the Beethoven year. The theme “Beethoven’s Vienna” nevertheless allows for numerous connections to other composers across a wide time span. This begins in 1792, when the 22-year-old Beethoven moved from Bonn to Vienna. His patron Count Waldstein sent him off with the famous wish that in Vienna he might receive “Mozart’s spirit from Haydn’s hands.” It is an early definition of Viennese Classicism, which made Vienna the centre of the musical world.
